The morning sun was just starting to come up when we got to TY Park with our cameras. What we found was pretty cool - the very first Watermelon 5K in Hollywood, Florida, and honestly, we've never seen runners get this excited about what they're getting after a race. Seriously, when you tell people they're getting fresh watermelon at the finish line, they show up ready to work for it.

Pre-Race Excitement and Those Cool Medals

Check out these watermelon-slice medals! The red and green ribbons matched the whole theme perfectly, and you could see people looking at them with huge grins before they even started running. That's when you know an event's going to be good - when people are already pumped about their medals before they've done anything to earn them.

Here's what goes on behind the scenes! We caught this shot of bib #1292 for Danielle Plevin all laid out with that colorful tie-dye race shirt. You can see how much work Victory Sports Management puts into organizing everything for the Watermelon 5K. They really thought about every detail.

The variety of people at this race was awesome. Here's someone stretching and getting ready for the course - smart move for sure. And look at John Manrique (#1353) with his arms up! That celebration pose shows you exactly why these themed races are so much fun. We love getting these pre-race shots because they show people getting excited about earning their watermelon.

The Main Event: Fresh Watermelon Waiting

And here's the good stuff - fresh watermelon slices just waiting for people to finish! Look at how red and juicy those slices are. Victory Sports Management knew what they were doing when they made the post-race experience just as important as the actual race. You can practically taste how good these are going to be after running 3.1 miles.

These watermelon medals are pretty sweet too! The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards have this cool watermelon design that made this race stand out. That green watermelon shape with the red "WATERMELON 5K" text - we've seen a lot of race medals, but these were definitely unique.

Race Action: Working for That Watermelon

Here's some serious running! Christopher Smith (#1498) was flying down the TY Park course - and for good reason since he finished first overall in 18:36! Meanwhile, Alvaro Donis (#1458) was putting in work too, finishing second at 19:53. That red tank and bright green shorts made him easy to spot the whole time.

Orlando Diaz (#1468) was looking good out there! That yellow cap and blue tank top made him stand out, and his running form was solid. He ended up third overall at 22:00 - not bad at all. And here's Kevin Metzler (#1410) giving a thumbs up while running, which is pretty awesome when you think about how much effort he's putting in.

People Working Together for Watermelon

Check out Ruth Mosley (#1358) and Bill Showell (#1416) running together! The course at TY Park winds around so much that faster and slower runners end up crossing paths and encouraging each other. They were probably both thinking about those watermelon slices waiting for them.

John Manrique (#1353) is throwing up double thumbs in his red Watermelon 5K shirt - that's the kind of enthusiasm that makes our job fun. And Yoenia Gutierrez (#1302) is flashing peace signs with the biggest smile! Her green sports bra and those colorful shorts were perfect for the summer vibe everyone was feeling while working toward their watermelon.

Mario Grace (#1340) was crushing it with those blue reflective sunglasses and perfect form. And here's Mauricio Orellana (#1459) and Ferrell Goldsmith (#1383) running together in that blue Nike shirt. Both of them show that it's not about being the fastest - it's about finishing and getting to enjoy some fresh watermelon!

Everyone's Got Their Watermelon Story

This shot shows what we love about themed races! Kyle Brown (#1367) is up front in his tie-dye shirt with headphones, and John Windhausen (#1462) is right behind him in that bright blue shirt. You can see runners of all different speeds spread out, but they're all working toward the same goal - some delicious watermelon.

Rebecca Feingold (#1500) proves that running is for everyone. Her headphones and steady pace show it's about showing up and earning your treat. And Rebeca Chamorro (#1451) was having a blast in that bright pink outfit, throwing up rock signs while heading toward her watermelon reward.

Kids and Adults All Want Watermelon

This shot is pretty cool because it shows how this race brought together different generations! You've got Vincenzo Bruno (#1318), Kelly Sanfilippo (#1341), young Elijah Santos (#2496), and Jarue Johnson (#1480). That little guy Elijah was keeping up with everyone else, all for the promise of watermelon at the end!

Jennifer Matus (#1324) was all smiles with those peace signs! Her red leggings and white top were perfect for this summer event. And here's another shot of Alvaro Donis (#1458) putting in serious work on that TY Park course. You can see the determination in his stride and that red tank and neon shorts were absolutely eye-catching.

Oksana Salaam (#1315) was beaming as she made her way through the course! That hydration vest shows she came prepared and was having a great time earning her watermelon reward. Her dedication and smile captured exactly what we love about themed races - people coming together to challenge themselves and celebrate their achievements.

Now this is what we're talking about! Yainet Diaz (#1409), Luis Contreras (#1369), Diana Gil-Triana (#1368), and Brenda Rivera (#1408) are all together showing off their medals and watermelon treats. This is exactly what the Watermelon 5K was about - earning your sweet reward and celebrating together.

Family power! This beautiful family celebration shot shows parents and their little one enjoying the post-race fun together. The kid is actually eating watermelon while being held - now that's what we call a family that races together for the right reasons! Racing is definitely a family thing when watermelon's involved.

The post-race celebration area was buzzing with energy as finishers enjoyed their accomplishments. Katherine Amaya (#1365) was absolutely glowing as she celebrated with her medal and watermelon slice! The joy and pride on her face perfectly captured what finishing your race means to every participant.

The course at TY Park winds through some really nice tree-lined paths, and honestly, we couldn't have asked for better conditions for a watermelon-themed race. The morning light coming through those big oak trees made for great photos while giving runners some shade as they worked toward their sweet reward.

Here's what made TY Park perfect for this watermelon race: the winding paths give us photographers lots of different spots to shoot from, the tree coverage keeps runners cool during Florida summer heat while they work toward their reward, and the smooth pavement works great for runners of all levels who want to earn their watermelon.

But honestly, everyone who finished was a winner when they got to enjoy those perfectly ripe watermelon slices.

The age range was incredible - from 3-year-old Coda Prou (#1449) to 78-year-old Steve Austin (#1360), proving that wanting watermelon after a good workout doesn't depend on age. Young Elijah Santos (#2496), at just 7 years old, finished in 29:42, showing that when watermelon's the reward, motivation comes naturally.

Looking Forward to Next Year
